Hey guys,
I posted a big note on myspace about the game. Basically, it's nearly done. I finished chapter six today. That makes chapters One, Two, Three, Four, and Six done, leaving just chapters Five and Seven. I have so little to do in each one! Then debugging. Anyway, I suggest if you're on myspace to go check out that bulletin as it has a bit more information than I plan to rewrite here. But I did write that before I finished chapter six.
Chapter six took a totally different turn from what I thought it would be in the beginning. That's OK. It was heavily influenced by a strange story we read in french class, about an eerie farm house with a farmer and his wife. Well, that sort of inspired chapter six, though I totally changed the idea of the story to fit the game. It's a wacky little thing, but I'm sure you might recognize where I got the influence from.
There's a little bit more RPG-ness to chapter six than any of the rest. Chapter six has players even buying and selling items at a central town, adventures, battles, and other stuff. Oh, and the dungeon. It's wierd, but I think it'll be OK. It's got the most maps of any chapter yet. Of chapters 1-6, chapter six has the most maps, coming in at 22. Very few of chapter six's maps are repeats too, so I think that will at least make it a bit more enjoyable. I think you will all like each part of the game differently, and that's why I made it so diverse.
Anyway, It's 11:15 PM, and I'm tired from this school week. Chapter Six has been finished by me this evening. It took a solid few hours of heavy mapmaking, but I did it. And now, Moving on to chapters 5 and 7. I'll admit, chapter 5 as of right now is a bit lame. I don't have any good inspiration for the dungeon. The basic idea is down, and most of the mapmaking is too. But the dungeon has me slowed. Chapter 7 is coming well, and I have a plan for the dungeon(s). I know generally what I'm doing there. I finished the ending already, so all I have to do is wrap things together. It may not be as long as I liked, but I am pretty sure I am combining two pretty cool dungeons into the chapter to make it pretty lengthy. My personal favorite dungeon was done last week, it's a 10 map dungeon. I think it will be your favorite too, so I saved it for the end.
Anyway, no spoilers, so I'll go to bed. But chapters 5 and 7 remain. That's all, folks.
I may finish chapter seven tomorrow, depending on how progress goes. I have a pretty good idea of what needs to get done, so I think it won't be difficult. I'm just far too tired to continue work today.
Quite a productive day. By the end of the day I ended up either making from scratch or just finishing up 12 maps from chapter 6. But I'm just so glad that one's all done.
I Stated I may get the mapmaking done by halloween. I can probably count the number of maps I have to make on my fingers and toes. That means, perhaps debugging may even be done by halloween... stay tuned.
Oh, and the title is "the next update". I plan on updating the site and my myspace thingy when the game's done. That's going to be my next update.
Time to work this out over some sleep, though most of it is already planned and waiting to be programmed.
Until then,
-Bobby. |

Well it's been a fun 3 day weekend. I've been working on the game. No more chapters done, but they'll probably be all done at once.
It's been the first time in a couple weeks that I've been able to work on the game. It's wrapping up nicely.
I will probably be done with the mapmaking by halloween. If I get some worktime this week and this upcoming weekend that should be even more likely.
Testing will take a long time. I think. The phase between the game is done, and you own a copy is going to take a while too. I think I will start taking pre-orders. It will be done that soon.
Pricing to come, if I announce tomorrow. I think I shall. Announcement on price tuesday. I begin taking pre-orders Wednesday.

Back and better than ever.
Actually, just back, whatever. Work resumes. Chapters 1,2,3,4 are done! Remember that!
Back from illness. Still feeling not so great, but school is do-able, so game making is as well. So, though I am hardly inspired to do anything today but sleep, I will work now.
I've had a LOT of homework to do in the last couple days, and now I have a lot more. I'm sorry that I can't have any updates to show, since I've basically been doing this school/tiredness thing for the first two weeks of school. Too much to do guys! It's the first week and I got a buttload of work to do. Whatever. My only complaint is tomorrow, I have ONE CLASS, that's right, HEALTH class. French Ablock = breakfast. I think that'll be all 90 mins. Block B STUDY HALL. BALLSACK that I can't get any work done in there programming wise. I can preplan my game for 90 minutes, but with no keyboard it's practically useless. Then off to lunch, which I'd admit is a bit gayer than odd day lunches. Even days really suck. Then off to health. Oh boy lots to do. Actually, as you might have guessed, not. Then gym to play football. Wow that's a touch way to start out a weekend. I'd like to not go tomorrow, but I wouldn't want to bother making up TWO even days now. What a pain, let me tell you.
anyway, game continues. In the past few days I've been doing some minor updates, nothing I can go into detail about. But I have been working, sans yesterday when I didn't turn on my PC.
Playing a LOT of counterstrike. And maybe airsoft saturday as well. Great fun that's probably going to jam up my weekend and get rid of all my game making time. Crap, that's another weekend lost. But I feel airsoft gets the priortiy as it is probably the last weekend we'll even be able to play before it's too cold windy snowing, or a combination. That's the problem. It's not like, ok yeah it's fall so it's just colder. no. It's all, gay winds 24/7. And in winter it's just as bad. I would love to play in the snow but it's snowing practically everyday and even when it isin't it's still windy windy windy. What balls. That's why it'd be good to get in a last game saturday.
Otherwise, nothing planned for tomorrow except maybe some CS. So if I don't sleep all afternoon I'll probably be working on the game. It's 8:00 right now, and I've finally got most of the things I need to do, done. Except homework. I have to do that. So I might get an hour of work or so in before bed. Wonderful. Well, at least every bit counts. Did you know, with the puny minutes I put into working on the game the last week, I finished all the items and descriptions, damages, etc. for chapters 1-5 items? Actually, I think I made every item in the game, not sure.
And I was contemplating a two weapon system, similar to the two spell system currently in place. you know, you get 2 skills per character, so I figured each character should get 2 weapons. One in their chapter, and one in chapter seven. But I think that may not work. So most likely I will leave that out.
Whatever. brains a mess. just took a physics test. Runny nose, getting late, and still more work to do. That is why this game took so long to make. |

I am getting a massive headache from being awake.......

Chapter four has been completed! As I speek, I have finished all of chapter four. I shall do a debug run later tomorrow. I need to sleep now. There should be 0 bugs though, as I debugged all the important stuff already. All fine tuned. Tomorrow begins more work on chapter five, six, or seven. I'm not sure, but I really wanted to finish up chapter four, and I've done a ton of work in the last week. Chapter four was the fastest to complete. And, it is a short chapter. All of them are really short. That's how the game goes. But it's fun, and I really enjoy what it has to offer.
Chapter one had 13 rooms. Chapter four has 15 rooms, but a lot less exploration and a lot more mission based than chapter one. As I might have said before, chapter one is adventureous. Chapter 2 has got the maze. Chapter three's big point is that it is double what it may have looked to have been. Chapter four is all about action. Chapter five is about uniting friends in a small adventure. Chapter six is about the beginning of a long journey, and chapter seven is about completeing the final mission. Ignore my typos.
The game won't be too long. I wish I could just inject playtime into the game, and if you explore, you'll have more fun along the way. The game's not about winning, finishing, or beating it first. It's about the experience. And the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. The more imagination, fun, and excitement you have, the better of an experience it will be. Keep in mind, I'm a kid, making his first game. Don't expect it to be some 15 hour RPG. it's a homemade game, made with a very low budget. But this game is dedicated to you. Lake Shore. The fans, the friends, the students, teachers and staff. I put all my best efforts into my first game, based around you, the people I've grown to love. Thank you for all you have given and taught to me, and I hope you enjoy just this mere slice of an experience of what I'd made up about Lake shore. And though, the game has a wierd and unusual subject, and most of the enemies aren't school tied, it's about those moments, where we can look at it together in fondness and laugh. Remembering those experiences we've had and enjoying, celebrating our futures in the real world. Congrats, Seniors of 2009. This is a great year, and I truly am proud of those people around me who have supported me and made the school experience what it's been. So to you, I give you a small token of my appreciation, my creation, Lake Shore and the Quest to Save the Internet.
If I didn't state it already, the game will be free. Any money accepted will STRICTLY be DONATIONS only. I would hope you could supply me with a bit of funds to eat up the costs of materials and most importantly, TIME that I have spent on this game. But taking money as a payment for some of the materials I have used in the game would be unacceptable. So please, if you would like to help me out, all I can say is throw in a donation. I will always appreciate your money. And your kind words. I know I thought up some plans earlier about packaging, cost, and etc. I just wanted to make it absolutely clear that payment as of now will strictly be by donations only.
Thank you, and I look forward to releasing the game soon.
Off to bed. If you didnt catch me on AIM: Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4 are 100% done. 5 is at 15%, 6 is at 70%, and 7 is at 60%. To my suprise, I was able to do 10% of the work on chapter four today in about three hours of solid work.
So, yeah. That's a lot of mapping, and doing the boring work. I wish the boring parts would at least be the lengthy parts of the game. Suprisingly, it's the exciting, heavily programming based parts that take less time than the practically meaningless parts.
Time for sleep,
-Bob. |

The site decided to delete all content again. That's the third or so time that I've lost all game media used in a website form. Well, this is a free website...
Anyway, I finished chapter three and basically just made the transition from three to four perfect. That means if I wanted to give a tester the game now, they could play this game to the beginning of chapter four, with no help from me. This helps as it seriously cuts out in the debugging phase. It's practically debugged to this point anyway.
School has begun. I thought I would get it done a lot faster than I have. It's been a lot more work than it looks.
I'm playing around with another rare element in chapter four. Chapter four has a lot of technical ideas that occur just about once in the game, that really push my programming to the limit. Very strange things, most very difficult to get working just right, and then fine tuning each aspect. And some battle scenes, with interruptions. Maze making. And don't forget, the most annoying map in the game. Yes, it's in youtube poop land. What chapter is that, seven? Yeah, that's it. Basically, I made a map, called the most annoying map in the game. Will it be included...? I think so. Maybe. It's annoying. And that's a youtube poop.
Some small updates on the other chapters have been done as well. I've been working on 3 and 4 a lot at the same time, as well as chapter five. I'm still leaving chapter five for later because that's really still up in the air as far as the story goes. I wrote what I thought it would be like in may, and I have no idea if my first idea would work, or if it would be long enough for a chapter.
Chapter three, much like joes chapter six, includes a lot of RPG type elements. Monsters, Dungeons, and Bosses. That's really where you get a chance to level up your characters, besides chapter seven. So it may be fair to say that the chapter three group will be a bit stronger than the rest, but not by much. (That is, if you don't spend hours purposely making your characters beefy by fighting spamslimes for an hour.)
People keep asking me, when's it going to be done?
Soon, my friends. |
